The Bay Area in California is approximately 2,700 miles from Jacksonville, Florida. The separation in distance and time was no barrier to the life experiences of 3Hre and Bishop on the Beat uniting the two men as a hip hop duo. One is a U.S. military veteran and the other a life long music professional. Like water, their sensory experiences flowed great distances until they came together in one stream centralized around metaphysical maturity and music.

As hip hop was coming of age in the 1980s, Bishop on the Beat fell in love with the genre of music. Run DMC, LL Cool J, Kool Moe Dee, and EPMD served as the muse and inspiration for Bishop on the Beat’s early foray into music during his preadolescent and teen years.

Hip Hop has five elements:

  • MCing
  • DJing
  • Graffiti
  • Breakdancing
  • Knowledge

Bishop on the Beat was drawn to the DJing element of hip hop. He started DJing as a teenager in high school as a battle DJ. Hip-Hop legends, DJ Jazzy Jeff, DJ Premier, Mix Master Mike, and DJ Joe Cooley were the sparks that ignited Bishop on the Beat’s journey of being a professional disc jockey. Bishop on the Beat lived out his real life version of “Krush Groove" along the Central Coast, in Los Angeles, and in the Bay area of California.

Bishop spent many years perfecting his gift of DJing at night clubs, house parties, and as a radio disc jockey.

Bishop on the Beat reflected on this period of his music career stating, “I had 50 Crates that were stacked on top of each other that I had to bring to my DJing gigs. I'm glad we're in the digital mp3 era, because all those vinyl records and the turn table equipment were heavy.”

In the early 2010s Bishop on the Beat had been DJing professionally for many years. He had become a husband and a father. Bishop on the Beat was not comfortable continuing as a radio dj or as a club dj because of the substance of the lyrics permeating musical songs.

Bishop on the Beat stepped away from music for seven years. He got a bachelor's degree in a computer related area of study and began working professionally in the technology sector.

The reborn appreciation for his Christian faith brought Bishop on the Beat back to music. Water never stops flowing, when obstructions hinder the path of water, it finds a new path. That's precisely what Bishop on the Beat did with his music. He found a new path for his musical gifts.

He encountered 3Hre on the internet and they became a musical collective.

3Hre is the MCing and Graffiti elements of the hip hop duo. Bishop on the Beat composes the instrumentals and 3Hre spits hot fire or sings over the musical productions. 3Hre also designs the album covers as a graphic designer.

3Hre’s musical inclinations also manifest themselves in his ability to play the guitar very well.

3Hre’s life journey includes being a U.S. military veteran and serving in the war in Afghanistan. Living on two different coasts along the shores of two different vast oceans, Bishop on the Beat and 3Hre have been able to manifest a brotherhood centered around their spiritual passion and musical gifts.

Bishop elaborated on the focus of the music duo, “We are open to doing a collaboration with Lecrae, Andy Mineo, 1K Phew, or other artists in our genre of music, but if that never happens it is okay. We’re focused on using our talents to make music for GOD.”

In the traditions of Asaph and King David, Bishop on the Beat and 3Hre are dedicated to making a joyful noise to the LORD using the musical gift that is hip hop.
