Hitemup was born and raised in the musically royal city of Memphis, Tennessee. The city on the eastern banks of the Mississippi River has produced generations of star entertainers. Hitemup embraces the responsibility of his geographical lineage with a keen eye for entertaining.

Hitemup video called in for our interview from the strip in Las Vegas. He was relaxed as he enjoyed the scenery of Las Vegas. It was fitting that a city known worldwide for entertainment would be the backdrop for an interview with a man born in a city known for molding entertainers. John D. Rockefeller once said, “He who works all day, has no time to make money.”

Hitemup’s musical gifts and work ethic has made room for him to move across the country to Los Angeles, California. When asked about palm trees being in Memphis, Hitemup smiled and slightly laughed, stating, “there aren’t any palm trees in Memphis; salute to Yo Gotti, though.”

The music video for Hitemup’s Bad Boy Music showcases his storytelling skills and ability to bring the story to life as a music video director. The music video is as much a short film as it is a music video.

Hitemup contrasts the differences in living life in Memphis, Tennessee, and Hollywood in the song and music video. Memphis is at times dangerous and gritty, while Hollywood is wealthy. Hitemup balances the dynamics of his reality in this song and in real life.

Hitemup has had regional success as a recording artist. Most notably, his song Wait A Minute featuring hip-hop producer Jazze Pha is his biggest record as a recording artist.

Hitemup has had more success as a record label owner, artist manager, and songwriter. There is no Pinocchio involved, but Hitemup is like a hip-hop Geppetto behind the scenes, successfully pulling all the strings. Hitemeup has written songs and created reference tracks for mainstream music stars such as Drake and Alicia Keys.

Out of sight doesn’t always equate to being out of the mind of others. Hitemup lists the likes of Yo Gotti, Blac Youngsta, and music execs at Atlantic Records as being likely to call for music-related matters.

Hitmeup uses the lessons that he has learned in the music industry to mentor and guide the younger artists signed to his record label, Rockemhard Entertainment. Rockemhard recording artist, P-Rock is currently touring with Yo Gotti’s CMG recording artist, Big Boogie.

Rapper’s Delight by the Sugarhill Gang is credited with being the first critically acclaimed rap song in history. The song references Memphis, Tennessee-based American funk band, The Bar-Kays.

Life is all about relationships, the relationships between people, geography, and history.

Hip-hop and Memphis have been a part of each other from the genesis of hip-hop to the present. Hitemup and his journey further illustrate Memphis and Hip-hop’s intertwined legacies.
