Twicy is the Brightest Afrobeats Star on the Gold Coast
Twicy is on the brink of global musical fame.
A star is risen in the Gold Coast. This star is not found in the night sky, but on radio and television stations throughout the African continent. When away from the bright lights and packed concerts, the Afrobeats rockstar known as Twicy can be found in his hometown of Agona Swedru, Ghana. The town of approximately 70,000 people is 51 miles from the Ghanian capital city of Accra, Ghana. There a large government hospital there, and the next largest attraction is Twicy.
Twicy aspired to be a pilot most of his childhood. Twicy's musical arrival as a teenager while attending Edinaman Senior High School switched the means by which he'd take flight professionally. His school hosted a talent show every Saturday night. This allowed Twicy to experience the exhilarating rush of performing as a singer for his classmates each weekend. Twicy stated, “I love Akon, so when I first started out, I would do covers of his different songs for my live performances. Akon is one of my heroes. I hope to meet Akon one day.”
Those experiences created a love for music inside of Twicy that put his dream of being a pilot on the back burner. Instead, Twicy was inspired to pursue becoming a professional singer.
Twicy started going to the studio while in high school. Sometimes he'd sleep there and volunteer to provide pro bono environmental services to the music studio in exchange for free recording time.
There is power in starting the journey, but the power in starting does not equate to easy. Twicy confessed as he spoke, “Now I ghost write songs for other artists and write all of my own songs, but at first I was not very good at song writing. Dedicating myself to time in the music studio…and even sleeping in the music studio has paid off, because it helped me develop as an artist and songwriter.”
Always being around facilitated Twicy getting better as a musician and created opportunities for him to network with some of the biggest music artists in Ghana and Nigeria. Twicy was the ever ready student, and all of the teachers readily appeared.
Twicy's latest single, “Kinda Lady" features Ghanian music superstar Kurl Songx. The feature manifested itself through the power of starting the journey. Twicy recorded the chorus and first verse for the record. It was an unfinished track. While Twicy was at home writing the second verse for “Kinda Lady", his music producer called unexpectedly to communicate that Kurl Songx wanted to drop a verse for the record after Twicy's music producer played the record for Kurl Songx impromptu, as they vibed to music in the recording studio.
Years earlier, Twicy came across his current music manager, Dailey Moses by chance after entering an online music contest. Moses Dailey was in the United States in Atlanta, Georgia. Twicy was the only artist not from the United States that entered the contest. Despite the geographical distance, it did not deter Moses Dailey from signing Twicy to his management firm, Dailey's Entertainment.
Fast forward to today, and Twicy has graced the stage alongside some of the biggest names in music from across the African continent. He has performed alongside Sarkodie, Patoranking, Stonebwoy, Kuami Eugene, and more.
Twicy has come a long way from couch surfing in music recording studios to now. The reverberations of his growth as an artist is even felt by his parents in their day-to-day life.
Twicy stated, “My neighbors call my dad ‘Rockstar's Father’ everytime they see him. My mother's coworkers always get excited and tell her about everytime they see me on television.”
Twicy is consumed by the greatest depths of gratitude to have been able to progress this far in his music career. Seeing other artists from the African continent selling out arenas around the world such as Davido, Burna Boy, and Kumani Eugene inspires Twicy as well.
Twicy stated, “Afrobeats is taking over the music scene on a global level. Seeing my fellow African artists accomplish what they're accomplishing now used to seem impossible for African music artists. All of our success makes me feel proud to be African.”
Twicy has spent the pandemic with his music being played on radio stations and television stations throughout Africa. Twicy wants to capitalize on his newfound fame by going to perform for music fans and music promoters all across Ghana, Nigeria, Gambia, Senegal, Morocco, Sierra Leone, and other countries across the continent of Africa. Twicy also hopes to build a large following in the United States and Europe as well.
The Gold Coast has a new international music rockstar, and his name is Twicy.
